PHYSICAL EDUCATION 

INTRODUCTION

Leadership is one of the best social qualities. This is highly developed through physical education and its activities. A good leader raises the group to new heights and it helps the society Adventure is an exciting or unusual experience, it may be a bold and usually risky undertaking with an uncertain outcome.

   Though adventure sports have been around for thousands of years, they have not been considered as sports until recent years. One must understand that adventure sports require a strong mental attitude because the aim of these sports is to achieve something exhilarating,

bold and thrilling but with a sportsman spirit Adventurous activities help to understand the nature and use of natural resources. These activities give a lot of experience to tackle problems and develop good leadership qualities.

Introduction To Leadership

Leadership is a social quality which is found among people of various ages, sex (female and Male), members of different races and from various cultural and economic background. The dictionary meaning of the word 'leader' is one who directs others.

Qualities of a Leader/Leadership

The following quality must have to become a good leader:


1.Physical Appearance: A leader must have a pleasing appearance. Physique and health are very important for a good leader.

2.Firm Determination : The leader must have the quality of firm determination. He should remain determined the learning process for which he is leading-

3.Co-Operative and Sympathetic Behavior: A leader should be cooperative and sympathetic towards his followers. Such attitude can win the hearts of the followers, which will be very helpful in achieving the desired goal. 

4.Good Personality: A leader must possess good personality traits which can influence the group effectively. He should have a charming personality.

5.Intelligence : A leader must have sharp intellectual level and deep insight. He should have farsightedness intelligent leader has good thinking power and anticipation. He should take quick and right decisions, for this intelligence is required.

6. Knowledge of the Subject: The leader should have vast knowledge and proper understanding of the subject. The des knowledge of the subject always impresses the followers.

7. Honest : Honest leader is always linked by a group. Honest has good impression on the groups.

8.Good art of Oratory: A leader must have good art of oratory. He should have plenty of words to express his ideas. A well prepared speech can influence the group effectively.

9. Sociable: A leader should have social qualities so that he can interact with the groups effectively. He should be nature by introverted. That helps in understanding the minds of his following.

10. Emotionally Balanced : Since a leader has to teach different individuals, he should be emotionally balanced. He should

have tolerance as well as calm temperament.

11. Vision and Foresight : A leader cannot maintain influence unless he exhibits that he is forward looking. He has to visualize situations and thereby has to frame logical programmers.

12. Impartial : A leader must have unbiased attitude which can win the confidence of his followers. Biased attitude always creates rivalry within the group which can shatter the group.

13. Sincerity: A good leader must do his work sincerely. A sincere advice is always followed by the group with great interest.

14. Courageous : A good leader should be courageous by nature which is essential to rule over the group. He should be authoritative in nature, which can direct the group effectively towards the attainment of goal

15. Empathy : It is an old adage "Stepping into the shoes of others". This is very important because fair judgement and objectivity comes only then. A leader should understand the problems and complaints of employees and should also have a complete view of the needs and aspirations of the employees. This helps in improving human relations and personal contacts with the employees.

16. Regular and Punctual : Regularity has good impact on the group so goal leader must possess regularity and punctuality


Role of a Leader

Following are the main roles of a leader in an organization:

1. Required at all Levels : Leadership is a function which is important at all levels of management. In the top levels important for getting co-operation in formulation of plans and policies. In the middle and lower level, it is required to interpretation and execution of plans and programmes framed by the top management. Leadership can be exercise through guidance and counseling of the subordinates at the time of execution of plans.

2.Representative of the Organization: A leader, le a manager is said to be the representative of the enterprise. He has to represent the concern at seminars, conferences, general meetings, etc. His role is to communicate the rationale the enterprise to outside public. He is also representative of the own department which he leads. 

3.Integrates and Reconciles the Personal Goals with Organizational Goals : A leader through leadership traits helps in reconciling/integrating the personal goals of the employees with the organizational goals. He is trying to coordinate the efforts of people towards a common purpose and thereby achieves objectives. This can be done only if he can influence and get willing co-operation and urge to accomplish the objectives.

4.He Solicits Support : A leader is a manager and besides that he is a person who entertains and invites support and co. operation of subordinates This he can do by his personality, intelligence, maturity and experience which can provide him positive result. In this regard, a leader has to invite suggestions and if possible implement them into plans and programmes of enterprise. This way, he can solicit full support of employees which results in willingness to work and thereby effectiveness in running of a concern.

5.As a Friend, Philosopher and Guide : A leader must possess the three dimensional traits in him. He can be a friend by sharing the feelings, opinions and desires with the employees. He can be a philosopher by utilizing his intelligence and experience and thereby guiding the employees as and when time requires. He can be a guide by supervising and

communicating the employees the plans and policies of top management and secure their cooperation to achieve the goals of a concern. At times he can also play the role of a counselor by counseling and a problem-solving approach. He can listen to the problems of the employees and try to solve them. 

Process of Creating Leaders Through Physical Education

Physical education provides better opportunity to develop future leaders. Here are the reasons why;

1.Extremely Interactive : Physical education is a highly interactive subject. It requires the participation of multiple people and communication between them. This helps the student to develop his communication skills, confidence levels and the ability to delegate. It also teaches the student to sensitive and how to respect others. 

2.Abundant Leadership Displaying Opportunities : Physical education provides numerous opportunities to the students to display their leadership qualities and to learn how to become leaders. For example, when discussing team strategies or enforcing rules upon teammates. On both such occasions, a student has to be charismatic enough to inspire people to follow him and follow his rules.

3.Learn Leadership : Participating in sports is something that everyone enjoys and as physical education can teach a person to be a leader, it is an ideal learning ground.

4.Sportsmanship : Physical education teaches you to be a sportsman. In other words, it teaches you to accept victory and defeat with equal grace.

5. Balancing Roles: A good leader should be able to balance all the roles on his shoulders equally and effectively. Physical education teaches you to do that.

6. Working Individually as well as in a Team : This is important as there are always personal goals as well as team goals. When a student is playing a sport, he will have to perform at two platforms, that is, individually to contribute to the team effort and as a team member, to achieve success. 

In spite of these points, one must remember that just by playing the sport, one does not become a leader. A coach would intentionally train you to become a leader.

Adventure Sports

Meaning and Definition of Adventure Sports Just as the name suggests, adventure sports are sports that require the participant to push himself to his physical limit. These sports generally require the participant to compete in a natural environment against themselves. Adventure sports generally feature extreme attributes such as height, depth, fear, water levels, spectacular stunts, the use of highly specialized motorized parts or high physical effort levels. Such sports can be either competitive or non-competitive. Most of these sports can be participated throughout the year. The more popular adventure sports include bungee jumping, mountain, rock climbing, white water rafting, freestyle snowboarding, skydiving and the likes.


Aims/Objectives of Adventure Sports

To expose the youth to nature, kindling the spirit of adventure, develop personality, character, courage and confidence though adventure sports.

The objectives of adventure sports are as follows: 1.To Develop Self-Confidence: It is one of the main objectives of adventure sports. In fact, individuals who engage in adventure sports compete with themselves and therefore have a great sense of achievement when they reach their goal. They overcome fear and experience thrill. In conclusion, these sports help to develop self-confidence. 2.To Develop Patience: To build concentration is another important objective of adventure sports By participating in adventure sports regularly an individual gets a series of absorbing experiences. He usually develops habits of extended attention. In this way, he enhances his ability to concentrate. 3.To Experience Nature: As adventure sports are based in the lap of nature, they enable the participant to not only come. 4.Overall Development: It has been accepted worldwide that the overall development of a child requires not only participation in academics but also regular participation in sports also. Today adventure sports are equal to sports and are preferred more than regular sports. closer to nature but also understand the challenges nature poses and how to deal with these. 5.To Develop Qualities to Face Challenges: Adventure sports provide ample opportunities for developing traits that prepare that prepare the participants to face challenges against all odds confidently and efficiently. These sports also enhance one's capabilities to deal with such situations with courage and determination. 6.To Enhance Exhilaration and Excitement: It is also a vital objectives of adventure sports to provide exhilaration, amusement, excitement, recreation and enjoyment to participants in adventure sports. 7.To Proper Use of Energy: Adventure sports provide participants a positive and healthy channelization for their abundant energy and enthusiasm. Indeed, it can be said that the use of abundant energy and enthusiasm in such a way is beneficial for the holistic development of participants. 8.To Encourage Creativity: to encourage creativity in participants is another significant objective of adventure sports. these sports allow and encourage creativity in the innovative development of new man oeuvres and in the stylish execution of existing techniques. 9. To Improve Social Relations: To improve social relations among the participants is another objective of adventure sports. Most of the sports such as hiking, trekking, camping, mountaineering, river rafting and rock climbing provide ample opportunities to forge social relations. During the participation in the above-mentioned sports, qualities like cooperation, sympathy, helping tendency, adjustment, group cohesion, unity, sincerity, patience, fraternity and tolerance are developed

Types of Adventure Sports

I. Rock Climbing

The rock climbing is another adventure sport taken up by the enthusiasts who want to challenge their mental and physical limits to the extreme points. In fact it is an activity in which participants climb up, down or across natural rock formations or artificial rock walls. Rock climbing requires a strong mental control, agility, flexibility, endurance and various coordinative abilities such as balance, coordination, reaction, ability and rhythm. The rock climbing helps the climbers to know their body in a better way. It is a good way to work out as in this way different parts of the body are subjected to extremes pressure.

Types of Rock Climbing

1.Free Climbing: In this type of climbing, the rock climber uses his/her own physical strength. The equipment used in this is used to safeguard the climber rather than helping the climber to climb. Free climbing can be further sub-divided depending on the choice of equipment and/or pattern of the belay, rope and anchor system. 2. Aid Climbing : Aid climbing refers to a climbing type in which the climber uses the aid of the climbing equipment to support him as well as help his mate to climb. Aid climbing also sees increase for the climber
